ZADECO backs constituency increase
Kitwe, June 23, 2014, ZANIS ……. The Zambia Democratic Conference (ZADECO) has supported the need to increase the number of constituencies in the country following the creation of more districts.
Speaking in an interview in Kitwe over the weekend, ZADECO president Langstone Sichone said the increase in the number of districts and population demands that there should be more polling stations as the current ones were too far apart.
Mr Sichone also said that there was need to revisit the parliamentary emoluments Act in order to respond to the demands of the people calling for a reduction.
He said ZADECO feels that the K500, 000 mid-term gratuities given to each Member of Parliament was too much.
Meanwhile, Mr Sichone said his party has embarked on a nation- wide exercise of re-organizing the party structures and also attract new members.
Mr Sichone who led the party’s steering committee to Northern and Copperbelt provinces recently, said the committee resolved that all parts of the country should be visited in order for the party to have candidates at all levels during the tripartite elections in 2016.
