-Government has launched a K1.5 million first ever technical audit on various roads in the country.
Scott Wilson Piesold Zambia Limited won the tender to carry out the technical audit in a period of three months.
Ministry of Finance Permanent Secretary Felix Nkulukusa said in Lusaka today that the objective of the technical audit is to ensure that public resources are utilized prudently and in a transparent manner.
Mr Nkulukusa said another objective is to investigate the work of contractors in terms of equipment, staff, quality control with regard to compliance, adherence to contract specifications and determining whether certified works meet the required quality and quantities as prescribed in the contract.
He said the technical audit once completed in September is expected to change the way business is done in the road sector by enhancing value for money in road works.
Mr Nkulusa said the PF attaches great importance to the road sector as evidenced from the on-going major road construction and rehabilitation works across the country.
And speaking earlier, NRFA Director and Chief Executive Officer Anthony Mwanaumo disclosed that the Fund intends to carry-out in-house technical audit on funds disbursed under implementing agencies like Road Development Agency and Councils to commerce third and fourth quarter, this year.
Dr Mwanaumo expressed optimism that lessons from the technical audit will help bring out gaps in the road sector and ensure that there is quality service delivery.
