Govt enters partnership with Ipas Zambia to address abortion

Lusaka, June 20, 2014, ZANIS —- Government says it has entered into a partnership with Ipas Zambia organization to address rising abortion cases among young women in Zambia.
Health Permanent Secretary Davy Chikamata says his ministry has for this reason signed a compressive Abortion Care for Young Women agreement .
Dr Chikamata says the Ministry of Community Development, Mother and Child Health is part of the partnership saying together the parties are going to combat high levels of abortion in Zambia.
ZANIS reports that the permanent secretary said this today when he officiated at the dissemination meeting on comprehensive abortion for young women Pilot project Radisson Blue Hotel in Lusaka.
He said the Ministry identified the need to strengthen adolescence and youth health by developing and implementing an adolescent health strategic plan.
And speaking at the same function, Ipas Country director Felicia Sakala said it is paramount for young women to have access to appropriate reproductive health services.
Ms Sakala said it is very gratifying that this work was done in close corroboration with the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Community Development, Mother and Child Health and indeed Ipas, a partner organization.
She said un safe abortion contributes to maternal World Wide and that the vice affects every society in the world of about 95% of unsafe abortion which is concentrated in developing countries.
