——NAMIBIAN High Commissioner to Zambia Leonard Nambalu says there is urgent need for enhanced trade between Zambia and Namibia.
And Northern Province permanent secretary Hlobotha Nkunika commended the High Commissioner for taking up the initiative to visit the province.
Ambassador Nambalu says in the past, relations between the two countries were mainly centered on political diplomacy, adding that there was no need to diversify so that economic diplomacy is put into consideration.
He said though the two neighbors had a lot of natural resources, the economic potential of the two countries had not been fully exploited to benefit local people.
‘It is after seeing some of the business prospects in the province that we will be able to properly advise our businessmen at home to come and invest in this country,’’ he said.
ZANIS reports that the Envoy was speaking today when he paid a courtesy call on Northern Province permanent secretary Hlobotha Nkunika, in Kasama District today.
He said market research was very critical, adding that Zambia and Namibia had a lot of potential areas for economic cooperation.
Ambassador Nambalu who is on a familiarization tour of Northern Province will also visit Kalungwishi Sugar Estate in Kasama and Mpulungu Harbour in Mpulungu town.
And Northern Province permanent secretary Hlobotha Nkunika commended the High Commissioner for taking up the initiative to visit the province.
Mr. Nkunika reiterated that economic cooperation was cardinal if the two countries are to tap their abundant resources to benefits the people.
He said Northern Province had a lot of economic potential which can be fully realized if the tourism and agriculture sectors were fully developed.
Mr. Nkunika also assured Ambassador Nambalu that government was investing heavily in Mpulungu Habour and the energy sector in the province.
