Chinese Vice President expected in the country tomorrow

A high powered Chinese delegation from the ruling Communist Party of China (CPC) is expected in Zambia tomorrow, Wednesday June 18th.

International Department of Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Bureau of African Affairs Director General, Zhong Weiyun disclosed the development to ZANIS in Beijing today.

Mr Zhong said the 21 member Chinese delegation of the CPC led by Vice Premier Li Yuanchao will depart from Beijing around midnight tonight for Lusaka where a series of meetings will be conducted between the delegation and the ruling Patriotic Front leadership.

He said the CPC Vice President Li Yuanchao and his 21 member delegation are visiting Zambia and Tanzania following their invitation by Vice President Guy Scott and his counterpart the Vice President of Tanzania, Mohamed Gharib Billal.

Mr Zhong also said Vice President Li and his delegation will be in Zambia on June 18before leaving for Tanzania on June 21where the group is expected to conduct similar meetings with the ruling party of that country from 21to 27June, 2014.

He said Vice President Li will be accompanied by Vice Minister of International Department of CPC Central Committee Yu Hongjun, Vice Minister of Commerce Li Jinzao, Assistant Foreign Minister Qian Hongshan, First Secretary of China Communist Youth League, Qin Yizhi and 16 other senior party members.

The Bureau of African Affairs Director General also stated that the CPC delegation is scheduled to have talks with President Michael Sata, Vice President Guy Scott and the PF Secretary General, Wynter Kabimba.

He outlined that the Chinese ruling party delegation will visit the youth training centre run by the National Project for Poverty Reduction and will witness the donation of two mini buses and 30 computers to the centre.

He also said a series of signing ceremonies which includes the signing of assistances such as grants, interest free loans and preferential loans, and about eight to nine agreements will be signed during this visit and the Chinese Ministry of Commerce has made a lot of preparations in this area.

Mr Zhong said the CPC has been in close working relationship with the PF since it assumed office in 2011, adding that is there in need to consolidate the party to party relations and exchanges.

He said the visit of the CPC Vice President and his entourage has a special significance in that it willconvey a message of good will to Zambia and the citizenry at large for continued peace and stability towards attaining the 50th independence anniversary later this year.

He also disclosed that the CPC Vice President will be part of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between Zambia and China which the two countries have lined up.

“This year marks the 50 years anniversary of independence for Zambia and Tanzania and 50 years of establishment of diplomatic relations the two countries have with China. The silver jubilee celebrations between the two neighbouring countries also shared with China is the major reason for the visit of the Chinese CPC Vice President and his entourage among other issues,” said Mr Zhong.

Mr Zhong further stated that the Chinese delegation’s visit to Zambia and Tanzania has four purposes which include saluting the able leadership of President Sata and his Tanzanian counterpart President Jakaya Kikwete for maintaining peace, consolidate the visit of His Excellency President Xi Jinping to Tanzania in March last year and President Sata’s visit to China in April 2013.

Other reasons are to exchange views with leaders of ruling parties of the two countries as well as to conduct study and investigations in order to know more about the economic and social developments of the two countries.
