General public advised to be cautious with projects threatening the environment
Sioma, June 13, 2014, ZANIS — The National Heritage Conservation Commission ( NHCC ) has advised the general public to be cautious as they undertake development projects .
NHCC Northwest region Senior Conservation Officer Micheal Nang’alelwa says is because if not well planned and implemented, the projects can affect the environment adversely.
Mr. Nang’alalwe said this when the national heritage conservation commission visited Sioma district to consult the public on the potential impact the proposed development of a hydro power plant at Ngonye Falls by Western Power cooperation.
He noted that some important issues have been raised relating to the flora in the area, important tree species, fish and the livelihood of the people around the Ngonye falls might be affected by the construction of the Hydro Power plant.
Mr. Nanag’alalwe said such a project can be done just like other places such as the Chishimba falls in Kasama and the Hydro power plant at Victoria falls.
