He said if I can’t manage to look after the baby I should poison it – Ireen Phiri

Ireen Phiri, 28, also of Zingalume township told the court that she was dumped by Frank Musopelo after she fell pregnant.
This is a case in which Phiri, 28 has sued Musopelo for child maintenance for their three month old baby.
Phiri told the court she started dating Musopelo last year, not knowing that he was a married man.
She told the court that Musopelo has not been supportive from the time she fell pregnant.  He also does not support the baby.
“He says he does not recognise the child and that if I can’t manage to look after the baby I should just give the baby poison,” Phiri said.
Phiri told the court that initially, Musopelo told her he was not married and promised to marry her.
However, Musopelo told Senior Court Magistrate Lewis Mumba that he changed his mind about marrying Phiri because she did not disclose that she has three other children.
“I was assaulted by the father of her children one day when I visited her. The man hit me with the plank on my head,” he said.
Musopelo told the court that what transpired while dating Phiri made him think twice about marrying her.
“She insults me in public saying I’m impotent because my current wife does not have any children,” he said.
In passing judgment, the court ordered Musopelo to pay Phiri K200 monthly as child maintenance and pay for other necessities when need arose.
