Over 5,000 vulnerable people from Mungwi and Chilubi districts have been earmarked to benefit from the Social Cash Transfer Scheme whose implementation will begin by the end of June this year.
The scheme which is aimed at reducing the poverty levels at household level is being implemented by government through the department of social welfare in collaborations with co-operating partners.
Speaking during stakeholders meetings held in Mungwi and Chilubi districts, provincial senior social welfare officer Sebastian Passuwa said government is implementing numerous developmental programmes aimed at uplifting peoples’ livelihoods in the country.
Mr. Passuwa said the identified households will be entitled to cash payments every month from the government.
About 50 districts countrywide will benefit from the programme this year.
In Northern Province, Mungwi, Chilubi, Kaputa, Nsama, Mporokoso and Luwingu are some of the districts identified to benefit from the scheme in 2014.
