MINISTER of Lands, Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Mwansa Kapeya has arrived in Cancun, Mexico to attend the fifth Global Environment Facility (GEF) Assembly.
Mr Kapeya is leading a Zambian delegation to the GEF assembly, one of the most important international financing mechanisms for multilateral environmental convention and supports projects that are aimed at improving the environment and contribute to achieving global environmental benefits around the world.
This is according to a statement issued yesterday by First Secretary for Press and Public Relations at the Zambian mission in Washington DC, Patricia Littiya.
Mr Kapeya will participate in roundtable discussions on a number of thematic topics among them legislation and fiscal policy in support of sustainable forest management, climate change, sustainable and resilient cities, mainstreaming natural capital in decision-making and financing green growth.
Mr Kapeya, who was received by Minister Counselor at the Zambian Embassy in Washington DC Ben Kangwa, is accompanied by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Gabriel Namulambe.
Meanwhile, Ministry of Lands, Natural Resources and Environmental Protection permanent secretary Inutu Suba attended a side event co-hosted by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) where she highlighted efforts that are paving way to accelerating energy efficiency and benefits for other lighting sectors.
