Chiefs and Traditional Affairs Minister Professor Kandu Luo, has welcomed the crowning of her Royal Highness Choongo as Chieftainess in her Chiefdom in Monze District. The Minister says that Government in its present leadership will not use their royal highnesses as political tools but will work with them to develop the country because President Micheal Sata has realized that rural areas will not be developed unless government partners with all the Chiefs in the country. She was speaking during the coronation of Chieftainess Choongo in the Western part of Monze District. Professor Kandu Luo says she is pleased with the transition that took place in the Chiefdom because it was peaceful, straightforward and transparent. She adds that this day was significant because the person who was chosen was a woman not a man and that there was no fight regarding the sex of her royal highness. Speaking at the same event, Tourism and Arts Minister, Jean Kapata who accompanied The Chiefs and Traditional Affairs Minister says as a country, we need to raise women to be at par with men in all levels of decision making. She was however pleased that women in Zambia are taking up decision making positions and that out of the 10 provinces in Zambia, we have eight women as Police Commissioners. Meanwhile United Party for National Development (UPND) leader Hakainde Hichilema thanked the Royal Family for choosing Chieftainess Choongo without difficulties. Chieftainess Choongo was gazetted on the 8th of June 2014, following procedures of the Chiefs Act.
