Movement for Multi-party Democracy (MMD) president Nevers Sekwila Mumba has advised Zambians to celebrate African Freedom Day by reflecting on God given peace the country has enjoyed.
Dr. Mumba was however quick to state that the peace the country has could be easily lost if virtues such as peace and unity are not upheld.
And Alliance for Better Zambia (ABZ) leader Frank Bwalya has observed that much more needs to be done if Africa is to truly be free.
Father Bwalya lamented that it is sad that African countries have continued to suffer at the hands of indigenous leaders with dictatorial tendencies.
In Ksasama Kasama scores of people from all walks of life gathered at the civic center as early as 08:00Hrs to celebrate Africa Freedom Day graced by Northern Province Minister, Freedom Sikazwe.
Mr. Sikazwe also led regional defence chiefs in laying wreaths at the cenotaph in honor of people who died during the struggle for liberation from colonial rule across Africa.
Prayers in remembrance of the fallen freedom fighters were said before a sermon delivered by a chaplain from Zambia Army.
The theme for this year’s Africa Freedom Day is; Zambia at 50, promoting Pan Africanism and Renaissance.
