The Anti- Corruption Commission in Eastern Province has arrested a former provincial local court officer and four others for allegedly misappropriating K 2.2 Million Kwacha from two judicial bank accounts in Chipata district of Eastern Province.
Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Regional Manager, Raymond Banda confirmed the arrests to the media in Chipata, today.
ZANIS reports that Mr. Banda said the five illegally withdrew K2.2 million from the Judiciary client account and Judiciary expenditure account at a named bank in Chipata District.
He stated that Plaston Moyo, a retired Provincial local courts officer who was warrant holder based in Chipata and Lewis Mwenya, an accountant at judiciary headquarters in Lusaka, also a sub and Lucas Mbewe a local court officer based in Petauke district.
Others are Sydney Kasunga Mumba a former court clerk at Chipata High court and Emmanuel Andrew Phiri, a Court clerk based in Chipata.
Mr. Banda explained that the funds were obtained in various amounts through several cheques withdrawn between 2007 and 2009.
He says the officers have been charged for several counts of theft by public servant contrary to the laws of Zambia.
Mr. Banda the arrests were made in the past two weeks and that some were dismissed from work for various reasons.
