Opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) has expelled its Sinjembela Member of Parliament Poniso Njeulu, with immediate effect.
And the party says it has also expelled two of its councillors for gross misconduct and destabilising the party.
UPND Spokesperson Charles Kakoma said Mr. Njeulu who is also Information and Broadcasting Services Deputy Minister has been expelled for gross misconduct
Mr. Kakoma said the decision to expel Mr. Njeulu was arrived at by the Party’s National Management Committee (NMC) which sat in Lusaka yesterday.
He said the Party’s Secretary General Winston Chibwe has since written a letter to the Speaker of the National Assembly Patrick Matibini to declare the Sinjembela seat vacant.
Mr. Kakoma said this in a statement issued to the Zambia News and Information Services ZANIS in Lusaka today.
Efforts to get a comment from Mr. Njeulu over the development by broadcast time failed as his mobile phone was off.
And Mr. Kakoma says it has also expelled two of its councillors for gross misconduct and destabilising the party.
He named the councillors as Evelo Chilala of Chilochabalenje Ward in Katuba Constituency and Mundia Sitali of Machile Ward in Mulobezi Constituency.
In another development, Mr. Kakoma announced that the party has appointed former ministers and veteran politicians Mr. Maybin Mubanga and Bernard Mpundu to its National Management Committee.
Luapula Province Chairman Rev. Betlem Choonde and Northern Province Chairman Mr. Danswell Kunda have also been moved to the National Management Committee to take up other positions.
