The Anti- Corruption Commission (ACC) has arrested a Maintenance Superintendent at Zambia Sugar Company in Mazabuka for receiving K10, 000 as gratification for him to help facilitate the awarding of a contract from Zambia Sugar.

 

Police sources disclosed that Willard Mwiinga aged 37 and a resident of Zambia Sugar Compound was arrested on Friday last week and detained in custody in connection with the offence of corrupt practices.

 

Sources further disclosed that Mwiinga is alleged to have received K10, 000 cash from Naslilele Mayumbelo a resident of Hillside on assurance that he would facilitate the awarding of a contract to him from the sugar company.

 

A team of Police and ACC officers that set a trap for Mwiinga and trailed him in the Central Business District where the cash transaction too place later recovered the amount which was found in Mwiinga’s possession.

 

The sources disclosed that a warn and caution statement was recorded from Mwiinga who is still remanded at Mazabuka Central Police station pending his court appearance.

 

“There is a lot of corruption taking place at Zambia Sugar where some people are made to pay huge sums of money in order for them to get contracts and jobs from Zambia Sugar. This trend has been going on for some time now and it is good that out colleagues at ACC have intervened and are now conducting investigations,” said the source.
