THE National Theatre Arts Association of Zambia (NATAAZ) national executive committee has expelled its general secretary Eric Kasomo Jr for alleged poor performance and non-commitment to the association’s work, particularly the secretariat.
NATAAZ national publicity secretary John Kapesa said in a press statement that the decision to expel Kasomo follows an executive committee meeting last weekend held at the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) offices in Lusaka.
Kasomo has been replaced by Isaac Kalumba, who was the deputy general secretary, and will be assisted by Mike Tembo, who was a national executive committee member.
“The General Secretary Eric Kasomo has been expelled under article 8.9 of the NATAAZ Constitution following his failure to exculpate himself over his poor performance and commitment to NATAAZ work and, particularly the secretariat.
“He has been replaced by vice general secretary Isaac Kalumba to be assisted by Mike Tembo, who has been a NEC committee member. The two have been cautioned not to fall into the same trap or they should decline their positions,” Kapesa said.
Following last weekend’s meeting, the executive also resolved to rebrand and renew the executive’s commitment to Nataaz activities and events and “to reaffirm the various programmes and reconfirm the remaining activities of the year planner for 2014.”
The remaining items on the year planner includes establishing and confirming the remaining seven provincial committees in Muchinga, Northern, Luapula, North-western, Western, Southern and Eastern in June and July.
Also on the planner is the running of the capacity building theatre workshop in June in Kabwe, the Women in Theatre Workshop in July in Mufulira and the Senior Theatre Festival set for October at the Lusaka Playhouse.
