Lafarge Zambia has announced plans to build a new cement plant at its Chilanga plant aimed at increasing cement production.
Zambia has seen increase in demand for cement owing to a number of infrastructure projects taking place across the country.
Lafarge Chief Executive Officer Emmanuel Rigaux says the construction of the new plant which is expected to commence later this year.
Speaking when Chinese Ambassador to Zambia Zhou Yuxiao paid a courtesy toured Cement Plant in Chilanga May 7th; Mr Rigaux says the new plant will be the third production line.
Mr. Rigaux however could not disclose how much money will be spent on the new cement plant, stating that the project is still in the design phase.
He says the new plant which will have a mill and a kiln will result in production capacity increasing to between four and five hundred tonnes pay day.
And Chinese Ambassador to Zambia, Zhou Yuxiao has commended Lafarge Management for the company’s safety record.
