Tthe opposition MMD in Northern Province has charged that there is nothing worth celebrating about this year’s Labor Day.
MMD regional information and publicity secretary Cephas Bwalya stated that it is baseless to celebrate May Day when most youths in the country are unemployed.
Mr Bwalya added that even those in employment had no reason to take part in the commemoration due to low wages against the high cost of living.
Workers in Kasama have joined the rest of their colleagues countrywide in commemorating Labor Day.
Scores of workers from both the public and private sector gathered as early as 07:30Hrs at Mbala roundabout and later marched to president’s park where the event is taking place.
Justice Minister Wynter Kabimba is gracing the celebrations.
The theme for this year’s Labor Day commemorations is; Zambia at 50; creating decent work and promoting social economic justice for national development.
Labor Day is an annual event held on 1st May to celebrate the achievements of workers.
