MMD National Executive Committee members pushing for the convening of an extraordinary national convention to elect a new party leadership have managed to secure the required petitions.
They have since presented the provincial petitions to acting party National secretary Chembe Nyangu.
Speaking when he handed over the petitions today, MMD Vice President for administration Brian Chituwo says the minimum of one third of petitions required to hold an extraordinary convention has been exceeded.
Mr Chituwo says now that the requirements of the party constitution have been met, the party should now go ahead to hold the convention to elect new leaders.
Mr Chituwo adds that it is time the MMD held an extra ordinary convention and begin to prepare to remove the Patriotic Front from office come 2016.
Meanwhile Mr Chituwo has refuted allegations that he together with party Spokesperson Dora Siliya have received K50,000 from President Michael Sata destabilize the party.
He has since threatened to take legal action against MMD National Treasurer and Chembe Member of Parliament Mwansa Mbulakulima who he has accused of spreading such lies.
Dr Chituwo was flanked by Dora Siliya,Michael Kaingu, Situmbeko Musokotwane, Elijah Muchima,Kapembwa Simbao,Kenneth Chipungu,Tobias Kafumukache and Chembe Nyangu among others.
