In Group A, South Africa lived up to their billing as joint favourites for the Team Event with Nigeria as they also posted a massive 5-0 win over host Botswana.
Before setting out for Thursday’s opener, Elme de Villiers form South African was of the opinion that they can finish tops among the African countries competing thus year again
“I think our chances are really good to win the gold again. We have a similar young team as the one who won last year, but we are all a year older with more experience and skills.”
Nevertheless, countries like Mauritius, Egypt and Seychelles would want to give South Africa a run for their money.
This is confirmed by Grace Gabriel from Nigeria, “We always battle out with South Africa in the team events, but other countries are also coming up strong.”
At the last edition, South Africa emerged successful with victories in 4 events out of a total of 6 including the Team Event, Men’s Singles, Men’s Doubles and Mixed Doubles.
