Reserve Agency (FRA) was established in 1996 as a semi-autonomous corporate body with responsibility for managing the National Food Security Reserve.

• The Food Reserve Agency-FRA is today scheduled to start selling maize to households in Kasama.

Kasama district commissioner Kalanga Bwalya confirmed the development saying the move had been necessitated to cushion the impact of the escalating Mealie-meal prices in the district.

Mr. Bwalya said every household will be allowed to buy 2 by 50 Kilogram bags of maize per month at a cost K80.

He said FRA will work with security officials to ensure that members of the public comply with the laid down procedures.

• Meanwhile, as the Maize marketing period for the 2013-2014 farming season is nearing, respective farmers in Northern Province have been urged not to sell all their produce.

Speaking in an interview with Mano News, Zambia National Farmers Union-ZNFU president Dr. Evelyn Nguleka stated that farmers ought to save some Maize for home consumption.

Dr. Nguleka, who recently toured Northern Province to familiarize herself with the farming activities in the area, noted that it is uncalled-for farmers to sell all their producer and later start complaining of hunger.
