The Zambia Information and Communication Technology Authority (ZICTA) says the rural mobile telecommunication connectivity project is expected to be completed by 2015.
ZICTA Board chairman Emmanuel Musonda says once all the 169 telecommunication towers are constructed countrywide, more than 200,00 people in the rural areas will access to mobile services.
Mr. Musonda said ZICTA remains committed to ensure that the rural communication project is completed in due time for the benefit of all Zambians.
ZANIS Reports that Mr. Musonda said during the launch of the 169 Communication Towers project at Matanda area in Mansa District, yesterday.
Mr. Musonda charged that the communication towers whose installation is being facilitated by ZICTA will be co shared by all the three mobile service providers namely Zamtel, Airtel and MTN.
He said this is in order to encourage competition and guarantee the Zambian people the quality of mobile service telecommunication.
