The Drug Enforcement Commission in Eastern Province has arrested a 55 year-old peasant farmer of Lundazi District for unlawful cultivation of fresh cannabis plants weighing over one (01) tonne.
Maxwell Kumwenda, 55, a peasant farmer of Chifisi village in Lundazi District has been arrested for unlawful cultivation of fresh cannabis plants weighing 1.2 tonnes and trafficking in 366kg of loose cannabis concealed in various modes.
This according to a statement signed by DEC public relations officer Theresa Katongo in Lusaka, April 18th.
Also arrested in Eastern Province is Chiukepo Mwandila, 46, a housewife of Chijemu village in Lundazi District for unlawful cultivation of fresh cannabis plants weighing 5.5kg.
Meanwhile the Commission in Western Province has arrested Peniso Mayungo, 30, a fishmonger of Maande village in Nalolo District for trafficking in 15.8kg of loose cannabis and Muzala Mukonda, 27, a peasant farmer of Chilombo area in Kaoma District for trafficking in 1.3kg of loose cannabis.
And on the Copperbelt, the Commission has arrested Patrick Kunda, 33, of 254 S/2 Kantanshi Township in Mufulira for trafficking in 1.6kg of cannabis.
All suspects will appear in court soon.
