A 30 year old Zambian man of Maamba Township in Sinazongwe District has been shot dead while two others escaped for illegal fishing on the Zimbabwean side of Lake Kariba.
Robinson Kasaka was shot dead by security officers on Zimbabwean side when he attempted to escape together with three others whose identities have not yet been established.
This came to light when Sinazongwe District Commissioner Dodo Sindaza briefed the District Development Coordinating Committee (DDCC) meeting held yesterday at the Council chambers.
Sindaza confirmed that the deceased was shot in the chest and has since been buried after a postmortem was conducted at Maamba Hospital in Sinazongwe District.
He said the deceased was in company of three other Zambians out of which the Zimbabwean security wing apprehended one while two others are reported to be on run.
The District Commissioner expressed worry over the development as it is not the first time Zambians found on Zimbabwean side of the Lake have been shot dead.
He appealed to Zambian security wings to liaise with their counterparts and find a lasting solution to the problem and avoid loss of more lives.
