Kabwe Municipal Council calls for rates payment
Lusaka, April 15, 2014. ZANIS….. Kabwe Municipal Council has warned of stern action on all shop owners in the district to pay their rates or risk closure of their shops.
Kabwe municipal council public relations manger Annie Mumba says her council will soon go into action and close all shops found wanting .
Ms. Mumba said while the council was sympathizing with some shop owners’ inability to pay their rates for their businesses due to the current social economic climate in the town, it will still go ahead and shut down those shops that would not pay rates.
She has appealed to the government through the ministry of local government to come up with a policy of relocating vendors to the markets in the district.
The council’s public relations manger said this in a telephone interview with ZANIS in Lusaka , today.
Ms. Mumba advised the vendors not be selling on the roads as they might risk their lives by speeding motorists.
She urged the traders to be selling their products in a clean and health environment with a work permit from the authorities as to prevent consumers from acquiring some diseases like cholera.
Meanwhile, kabwe residents have issued a complaint over the payments of fixed rates when the street vendors are selling the same products without paying anything.
