Government has reiterated that it will be left with no choice but to construct a dry port at Kasumbalesa border post if the security situation continues to worsen.
Home Affairs Minister Ngosa Simbyakula has told ZNBC news in Lusaka April 14th that the SADC and COMESA member states will have to be involved in the construction of the dry port.
Dr. Simbyakula says this is because trade with the Democratic Republic of Congo is not only between that country and Zambia but involves other SADC and COMESA countries.
When asked on how soon government will take up this matter with SADC and COMESA countries, the Minister said his counterpart at Transport, Works and Supply Yamfwa Mukanga will table the matter.
Meanwhile Dr. Simbyakula says government has not yet received details from the Congolese government on the latest incident where a Somalian truck driver resident in Zambia was shot and wounded at in Katanga province.
He also says the government is still waiting for details on the shooting of a couple at Kasumbalesa border post on the Zambian side.
