2012 Africa Rally Championship (ARC) winner Mohammad Essa started his 2014 campaign on a winning note after finishing ahead of his competitors in the Sasol Rally of South Africa.The Zambian who missed the first event of the campaign; Bandama Rally in Ivory Coast now sits second on the ARC log on 25 points 18 points behind Ivory Coast’s Gary Chaynes who finished second in the Sasol rally.
Kenya’s Jaspreet Chatthe who failed to complete the Bandama rally came third in South Africa while Zambia’s Kenneth Mukosa finished fourth.
Rwanda’s Giancarlo Davite cruising a Mitsubish Evo 10 was a non-finisher after experiencing mechanical problems.
Nevertheless, Davite lies fourth on the ARC standings with 15 points.
There was no Ugandan participant in the event that attracted more than forty drivers. The next event on the ARC calendar is the Zambia International Rally on the weekend of 16-18 May 2014.
