Namwala District council hailed for improved water and sanitation services
Namwala 28th March 2014, ZANIS — The Zambia NGO WASH Forum has commended Namwala District Council for seriously implementing wash programs in the district.
The civic organization ‘s member Chole Musonda says his organization was impressed by the positive attitude by council towards improved water supply and sanitation services in the area.
Mr. Musonda said this was because of government partnership with other stakeholders such as like UNICEF and World Vision among others.
The NGO Forum member said this in an interview with ZANIS in Namwala District, today.
He however said water and sanitation supply in the district should stepped up further by ensuring that at least 500m boreholes from each village or water point area.
The Zambia NGO WASH Forum embarked on a District Budget Tracking process for the financial year 2013.
This was last done in the last quarter of December 2013, the budget tracking exercise was intended to track National Budget Expenditure at district level.
A number of districts namely Lukulu , Lufwanyama , Kazungula, Masaiti, Monze, Nyimba, Namwala , Milenge, Mansa and Shibuyuni districts were selected for the project based on recommendations from the Ministry of local government and housing (MLGH)and Water Aid Zambia.
Additionally the forum aimed at ensuring the utilisation of the water and sanitation resources in a more equitable , transparent and accountable manner which can lead to the acceleration of the progress being msde by the Zambian government and NGOS towards the attainment of MDG No 7(c) by 2015.
