Agriculture is one of Stanbic Bank’s key focus sectors and its business model has been structured to support the full Agriculture Value Chain ranging from input suppliers, farmers/out growers, off-takers, processing/production units, distributors, wholesalers and retailers. “What excites us about this product”, says Mr Charles Mudiwa, Chief Executive of Stanbic Bank Zambia, “is the fact that some of our agricultural specialists were once farmers and thus have real-life insights into the agric industry. They fully understand the end-to-end experiences faced by farmers and are able to add value over and above ordinary banking solutions.”
Stanbic Bank Zambia is the platinum sponsor at the upcoming Agritech Expo at GART in Chisamba where some 8000 visitors and delegates are expected from 4-5 April. It is the country’s first full-scale, live agriculture event, offering everything from a conference, technical workshops, live crop trials to first-hand demonstrations of the latest in large scale agricultural machinery. More than 60 exhibitors will display the latest technology in farming and post-harvest equipment as well as products and services ranging from seeds, through fertilizers, crop protection products, and irrigation.
Vice President and Minister attending Agritech Expo
Zambia’s Vice President Dr Guy Scott and the new Zambian Minister for Agriculture and Livestock, the Honourable Minister Wilbur Simuusa, will both attend Agritech Expo.
Says the Stanbic Bank Chief Executive Charles Mudiwa: “our agriculture portfolio has grown into one of the leading agric banking portfolios in Zambia, both in market share and size of lending book, which directly supports the Zambian Government’s focus on the agriculture sector.”
He continues: “further, we are proud of the growth of our branch network over the last few years, specifically as we opened branches in most of the major farming blocks. We also participate and sponsor various agriculture related events, including being a major sponsor of the prestigiousAgritech Expo, which all shows our commitment and passion towards the agriculture sector.”
Key local support
More key local partners in the event are the Zambia National Farmers’ Union (ZNFU), the USAID’s Southern African Trade Hub, who will present free workshops designed particularly for small holders and emerging commercial farmers, Musika, a Zambian non-proft that stimulates private investment in the smallholder market, and GART or the Golden Valley Agricultural Research Trust.
The country’s leading poultry event, the Zambia Poultry Expo, will also join the Agritech Expo in Chisamba in a recent change of venue that is expected to boost the visitor numbers even more.
The expo is free to attend for all agricultural professionals who pre-register, or arrive with an event ticket.
