Govt warns against illegal quarrying in Shawang’andu District

Shawang’andu, March 27, 2014, ZANIS — Government has warned against illegal quarrying activities in Shiwang’andu district.

Shiwang’andu  District Council Secretary (CS) Maybin Mulenga  says  his office was  advising  developers in the District to stop engaging themselves in illegal sand quarrying.

Mr. Mulenga said whoever will be found collecting sand from the road side of any road in Shawang’andu will be penalized.

Mr. Mulenga said  this in an interview with the Zambia News and Information Service (ZANIS) in Shawang’andu today.

This was  soon after he  conducted a tour on the  Shawang’andu road where he found ditches on the side of the road.

Mr. Mulenga charged that the venture of illegal sand quarrying will lead to poor road infrastructure in the district if people do not desist themselves from illegal sand quarry.

The CS said that people must quickly adapt to change because Shawang’andu is no longer a village but a district now.
