Govt. pledges increased access of water in Muchinga Province
Chinsali, March 24, 2014, ZANIS —— Government says new Muchinga province is aiming at
increasing access to water and energy resources for domestic, industrial and recreational purposes.
Muchinga Province Deputy Permanent Secretary Davy Chanda however says that the biggest threat to both surface and ground water is the rate at which the water gets contaminated mainly by human factors.
Mr. Chanda said coupled with the population increase in the province, the problem has compounded with pollution and degradation of the environment.
ZANIS reports that the provincial Deputy Permanent Secretary said this in Chinsali over the weekend when Muchinga joined the rest of the world in commemorating World Water Day under the theme "Water and energy".
He said to this effect the government through the department of water affairs and other stakeholders will continue to monitor the quality of water to ensure that both rural and urban communities have access to safe drinking water.
Muchinga has however interpreted this year’s theme as increased access to
water and energy resources in the Province.
Muchinga celebrated the event for the first time ever since its establishment as a province.
