22 year old man sentenced six months for theft in Kolwezi District
Solwezi, March 24th 2014, ZANIS —– The Solwezi magistrate court has sentenced a 22 year old man of Solwezi district to 12 months imprisonment with hard labour for theft.
And sentenced a 23 year old man of Solwezi district has been to six months imprisonment for theft contrary to section 272 of the penal code CAP 87 of the laws.
Appearing before Solwezi principal resident magistrate Ikechukwu Iduma was Robby Wosipito who stood charged with one count of theft contrary to section 272 of the penal code CAP 87 of the laws of Zambia to which he pleaded guilty.
Particulars of the offence were that on unknown dates but between February 2014 and 12th March 2014 in Solwezi Wosipito stole one motor cycle valued at K1, 500 the property of Tito Kalota.
Mr. Iduma said the accused was a first offender that had not wasted the court’s time by readily pleading guilty to the charge and therefore deserved leniency and slapped a 12 months sentence on him.
Meanwhile, Mr Iduma sentenced a 23 year old man of Solwezi district to six months imprisonment for theft contrary to section 272 of the penal code CAP 87 of the laws.
The magistrate said he found the accused guilty of the charge upon his own admission and noted that he deserved leniency because he did not waste the court’s time by readily pleading guilty.
Particulars of the offence were that on 16th March 2014, Nelson Mwenda stole a digital camera, four flash disks, and a memory card all valued at K1, 250 property of Jonas Besa, the charge he readily admitted.
Mwenda told the court that he stole the items because he wanted to sale them and raise money for silicosis medical examinations.
