World Vision Zambia has put in place measures to improve the livelihood of vulnerable families in the country and Kafue district in particular.
Chipapa Greenfield branch team leader Towela Mzumara said young girls in the district are the most victims of gender based and domestic violence, early marriages and pregnancies, defilement and other vices.
Ms Mzumara said this during a presentation at a stakeholders meeting at Lilo lodge in Kafue.
She added that in order to fight the vice, her organization, in conjunction with the district leadership including traditional leaders was working on modalities in improving the well being of children in the Kafue district.
Ms Mzumara further said the programme which started in 2011 is in the second year of implementation stage in Malundu and Lukolongo wards in the district.
She further said the world vision Greenfield Chipapa branch is empowering all vulnerable families within their reach in the district with capacity building, self organization and economic development skills to enable them sustain the development interventions.
In addition Ms Mzumara cited lack of knowledge on roles and responsibilities of community structure and maternal child health issues as one of contributing factors affecting the well being of children and families in the district.
She has since called for concerted efforts from all stake holders in improving the livelihood of the vulnerable children and families at large.
