Eastern PS disappointed with CSO, church on calls for constitution.
Chipata, March 23, ZANIS—Eastern Province Minister Malozo Sichone has expressed disappointment that Civil Society Organizations and political parties that have opted to use the church to achieve what he termed as a secret agenda.
In reference to a prayer meeting which was held yesterday to push for the immediate release of the draft constitution at St. Anatazio Catholic Church in Chipata, Mr Sichone said the civil society should come out and state clearly what they hope to achieve from their actions.
He said it was unfortunate that instead of calling for a meeting with government to discuss critical issues, the church has resolved to pray for the government with the opposition.
ZANIS reports that Mr Sichone said the church should not take sides but be unifying factor saying the calling for a prayer meeting with opposition political parties was not the right approach.
He dispelled assertions that government had back peddled on the constitution making process saying the fact that government had budgeted for the constitution is a clear indication that it is committed to delivering the document.
Yesterday, people from various sectors convened at Saint Atanazio Roman Catholic church to seek God’s intervention in pushing for the immediate release of the draft Constitution.
The sectors included the civil society, the church and opposition political.
