The Road Development Agency (RDA) has today signed contracts with four contractors to improve the drainage system in the country.
RDA Director and Chief Execute Officer Bernard Chiwala is happy that the contracts have been signed and hopes work would be done satisfactorily.
The agency has signed contracts with Dawiq Limited which is in a joint venture with Keren Limited to maintain the 131 kilometres of M001 road from Mpika at the junction with Great North Road to Chambeshi Bridge in Muchinga.
He said the contract period is 12 months and will cost about K118.3 million.
He said the scope of work shall be to improve pothole patching and repair drainage structures and roads.
Mr. Chiwala said the other three contracts will work on the drainage system within Lusaka with the scope of works being earth works, concrete and stone pitching.
The second contract was signed with Kaungu General Dealers and will cost K557, 433 while the third one was entered with Geomaceni Enterprises which will cost K449, 335.74.
Mr. Chiwala said the last contract is with Magwend Suppliers which will gobble K725, 967.44 for the construction of drainage structures in selected roads in Lusaka urban.
He said all the contractors shall commence the works two weeks after the date of signing contracts and the completion period will be four months from commencement date.
Geomaceni Enterprises Director General George Ngoma thanked government and the RDA for awarding contracts to local companies and promised that they would work adequately and within the given period.
And Kaungu General Dealers Director Eunice Zeko also thanked RDA for the opportunity and said her company will ensure that good work is done.
