The capital city giants filed a fraud case as per the CAF Champions League rules and regulations over Munthali who they alleged was improperly registered.
The club alleged the player, who is on loan from another Zambian powerhouse, was ineligible to play when the two teams met last month in the preliminary round match.
The Kitwe-based ensemble overturned a 0-2 first leg loss to win 5-4 on aggregate, having romped to a 5-2 win in the second leg.
Swallows filed a fraud case with CAF through the National Football Association of Swaziland (NFAS) two weeks ago. However, CAF responded on Tuesday where the player was cleared by the continental football mother body.
FA CEO Frederick Mngomezulu could only confirm that CAF responded on the issue, but referred comments to Swallows.
“CAF has communicated but all we did was forward the response to Swallows. They are the only ones who can be in a position to disclose what was said,” he said. Mbabane Swallows Acting CEO Sibusiso Manana also confirmed the response, stating that CAF has said the investigations carried out on the matter cleared the Zambian player.
In a letter sent by CAF to the club, Manager of Interclubs Competitions Ismail Wally said:
“We acknowledge receipt of your letter dated 24th of February 2014 concerning your complaint regarding the participation of Player Christopher Munthali of Nkana Club (Zambia).
However, kindly note that the said player was registered during the stipulated period of registration in the regulations and all his registration procedures and documents were respected and no infraction at all was made.”
The player has been key to Nkana in their CAF Champions League campaign where he also scored a crucial goal in Kampala last weekend when they beat Kampala City Council 2-1 at home to advance to the Last 16 stage of the competition on a 4-3 aggregate.
