Five people have died on a spot while four others have sustained serious injuries when a Toyota Haice Mini bus they were traveling in overturned in Ibenga area along Luanshya –Mpongwe road.
An eye witness told ZANIS in Luanshya today that the accident happened around 12:00 hours when the minibus developed a rear tyre burst.
Mark Sianjalika narrated that the minibus which rolled over four times overturned when a passenger panicked and pulled the hand break upon realizing that the vehicle had developed a tyre burst.
Sianjalika who helped in the ferrying of accident victims disclosed that two female passengers in their thirties died on the spot, and three others died on their way to Ibenga Mission Hospital.
He said the driver of the minibus sustained serious head injuries while the others suffered multiple body injuries.
He stated that both the deceased’s bodies and the injured passengers were taken to Ibenga Mission hospital.
And Luanshya Police Officer Commanding Zachariah Magawa confirmed the accident in a telephone interview but could not give details as the police were still at the accident scene.
