Murder suspect Henry Lungu has pleaded not guilty before Livingstone High court Judge Gaudencia Salasini for allegedly killing Patriotic Front Monze District chairman Harrison Chanda.

This is in a case in which Mazabuka Central United Party for National Development [UPND] Member of Parliament Garry Nkombo together with several other UPND members where facing a murder charge of Harrison Chanda who was allegedly hacked to death.

However, charges against the UPND supporters were later dropped by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Facts before court were that in February 2013, Mr. Lungu while in Livingstone during the run up to the Livingstone Parliamentary by-elections did murder Harrison Chanda a PF official contrary to the Laws of Zambia.

When the facts were read out to him, Mr. Lungu a resident of B230 Libuyu compound in Livingstone District of Southern Province said he understood the charge levelled against him and pleaded not guilty.

Justice Salasini recorded a plea of not guilty and set 19th March 2014 as the date for commencement of trial.

Mr. Lungu has been remanded in custody.
