Two people have died on the spot when an unknown vehicle hit the bicycle they were riding on the Great East Road in Chipata district.
Eastern Province Police Commissioner Grace Chipalila told ZANIS that Blackson Zulu 58 and Georfrey Soko 24 met their fate at Ziba Zako area when the vehicle which was coming from Katete to Chipata district hit their bicycle.
Mrs Chipalila said the driver of the vehicle failed to reduce speed and hit the two due to over speeding in a hit and run accident on Wednesday around 20:00 hours.
Mrs Chipalila said Soko who was riding the bicycle sustained fractures on both legs and protrusion of the intestines while Zulu sustained a deep cut on the head and a fracture on his left leg.
She stated that police have since launched investigations into the matter.
