THE Zambia Ladies Golf Union (ZLGU) has so far raised K20,000 towards the fulfilment of some of the international engagements for the year.
ZLGU managed to mobilise the funds from a fundraising golf tournament held in Mazabuka.
ZLGU president Moono Mwila said the union was scouting for K1.9 million to take care of all international fixtures including the golden jubilee celebrations.
Mwila said in Mazabuka that ZLGU would send a team to Kenya for the All-Africa Challenge and also some golfers for the A & B Triangular tournament in Botswana.
She expressed happiness that 15 companies took part in the tournament, especially that a good number of golfing activities were taking place across the country last weekend.
“I am humbly encouraged with the response shown to this fundraiser which I thought would be overshadowed by some other golf activities taking place across the nation, she said.
Mwila said ZLGU would be sending an 11-member team to Botswana for the A & B Triangular championship scheduled for March 27 to April 4 in Gaborone.
She urged the Mazabuka Golf Club to continue supporting the ladies sport and invited the teams which participated in the Mazabuka event to also turn up during the next fundraiser this weekend.
The second fundraising tournament is set for Lusaka’s Chainama Golf Club on March 8, which will be Women’s Day.
Speaking earlier, Mazabuka Golf Club lady captain, Julie Hellqvistto thanked the participating teams for the massive support and selfless contribution rendered to the ladies fundraising initiative.
The ZLGU fundraising tournament was scooped by Team BGC who amassed 128 points and were followed by Tractor Mark on 123 points. The third slot was taken by Team Spar.
Companies and institutions which sponsored teams included Bhagoo Group of Companies (BGC), Keegy Limited, Nemerit, SPAR, Zambia Sugar and Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA).
Others were KPMG, Tractor Mark, BOZ, Syringa , Kazuma and Zambia Police.
