Kafue District Commissioner, Grace Ngulube, has called on Kafue residents to celebrate the Women’s Day with dignity.
Ms Ngulube reminded residents that the day is celebrated internationally to recognise the importance of women in development.
She called on communities in the district to stop politicising the day but to thank God for the peace the country is enjoying.
Ms Ngulube also called on all women in the district regardless of their political affiliations to come in numbers to celebrate this important day.
And the District Commissioner has revealed that women in the district have embarked on various activities to commemorate the day which falls on March 8, every year.
She cited the cleaning of medical centres and donating foodstuffs, soap and other assorted goods to children’s villages in the district as some of the activities Kafue women were doing prior to their day.
Meanwhile, Kafue District Women Lobby Group chairperson, Lizzie Ndumba, has urged men to come on board in spearheading the fight against domestic violence.
Ms Ndumba said it takes concerted efforts from all stakeholders to have peace in the home and the nation at large.
She said the lobby group in the district was grateful to President Michael Sata for putting women in key positions.
Ms Ndumba has since appealed to President Sata to increase the number of women in decision-making positions.
