Uganda Cranes Head Coach, Milutin “Micho” Sedrojevic with the technical team have named the final group of 20 players who will be used for the upcoming International Friendly game between hosts, Zambia and Uganda due this Wednesday, 5th March at the Levi Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.
The three Kampala City Players, left winger Brian Majwega, midfield ace Ivan Ntege and strikers Tonny Odur have not been included in the final squad.
“KCC players have been left out to concentrate on the club’s return leg fixture against Zambian Champions, Nkana Red Devils due on Saturday, 8th March at Namboole Stadium in Kampala”, an official statement released by the technical team reads. (A 10 man KCC side held Nkana Red Devils to a 2 all draw in the Saturday first leg).
Kampala City Council (KCC),citing team stability and focused preparations for the CAF Champions league engagements, had vowed never to release the trio even if they had been called for national team duty.
Vipers’ goal keeper, Isma Watenga, who had been earlier summoned, has been dropped in preference for the burly foreign legion of Robert Odongkara (Ethiopia’s Saint George) and Dennis Onyango Masende (BidVest Wits in South Africa).
Also left out of the team is Gor Mahia’s defender, Godfrey ‘Jaja Walu’ Walusimbi. He alongside teammates, Geofrey Baba Kizito and striker, Dan Sserunkuma are set to travel To Tunisia with their Kenyan team in preparation for the CAF Champions league return leg against Tunisia’s Esperance football club. (Gor lost first leg 2 – 3 in Nairobi).
Portugese based Geofrey Luwagga Kizito and Kakuba, both earlier named on the preliminary list have been the unfortunate duo to make the trip because of the complications of flight connections from Lisbon to Lusaka.
Only 4 home based players, utility player, Dennis Iguma (SC Victoria University), king pin defender Richard Kasagga (Kira Young), right back Nicolas Wadada and the left footed diminutive full back, Isaac Muleme make the team.
The home based players and the team officials are expected to leave the country for Zambia on Sunday night aboard Ethiopian Airlines.
