Two people have been injured when the vehicle they were in collided head on with another vehicle belonging to Kalomo UPND Member of Parliament Request Muntanga along Mungule road in Katuba constituency.
Police sources at Kabangwe Police Post told ZANIS that a vehicle that belongs to a parliamentarian hit into an oncoming vehicle namely a Mark II registration number ABV 4293 that was ferrying Patriotic Front (PF) members.
Police have since detained the driver, who was driving Mr. Muntanga’s vehicle, for careless driving and his name has been withheld.
The police source also disclosed that Mr. Muntanga’s vehicle, a Mitsubishi Pajero registration number AAZ 2045, was moving from east to west while the other was coming in the opposite direction.
The driver of the Pajero did not allegedly stick to his lane and in the process hit into the oncoming vehicle.
Meanwhile, a ZANIS crew that went to check on the accident victims at Chipata clinic was denied access by the clinic staff.
However, the authorities at the clinic confirmed receiving PF members that were injured but said they have since been discharged.
They further confirmed receiving one person who was beaten up in Katuba on Feb 24th prior to the elections.
Meanwhile, Home Affairs Deputy Minister Stephen Kampyongo confirmed receiving reports of violence in Shifwankula and Mungule areas on Feb 25th.
Mr. Kampyongo said it was regrettable that acts of violence had erupted on the voting day after the campaign period was peaceful.
