POLICE in Chililabombwe have arrested two truck drivers for allegedly stealing 135,000 litres of diesel valued at K1,112,400 from Lubambe Copper Mines(LCM).
The drivers, allegedly diverted the diesel which was ordered by the mining company from Total Filling station in Ndola between December 21, last year and January 19, this year.
Copperbelt police Chief Joyce Kasosa said police received a case of theft from LCM in which 135,000 litres of diesel valued at K1,112,400 was diverted on the way.
Ms Kasosa identified the drivers as Job Simpazye,36, a driver at Juba Transport and Sheriff Abdul Kadir,42, of MohabTtransport.
Simpazye is suspected to have stolen 40,000 litres while Kadir allegedly stole 35,000 litres of diesel.
She said Total supplies the commodity to LCM but the divers diverted it in the process.
Ms Kasosa said the third driver was on the run and is believed to have diverted two fuel tankers on different occasions.
She said a manhunt has since been launched.
And in Solwezi, a 65-year- old died instantly after a tree he was cutting fell on him at his farm in Kandemba area.
North- Western Province deputy police chief Michael Nkaka identified the deceased as Zwaki Ndonyo.
Mr Nkaka said police did not suspect foul play.
In another incident, police have arrested a 26- year -old man for hitting two pedestrians while cycling on old Solwezi-Chingola Road.
Mr Nkaka said Maring Lupiya of Solwezi Royal Hotel area caused injuries on Ndekai Mulaya aged six and Yvonne Mubambe aged 16.
