Chipata District Commissioner (DC) Kalunga Zulu has expressed concern with increased levels of road traffic accidents in Eastern province.
And RTSA CEO Zindaba Soko said the agency is aware of the many challenges that district faces concerning road safety.
Mr. Zulu has since called on the Road Transport Safety Agency (RTSA) to intensify its sensitization programme on road safety issues.
ZANIS reports that the District Commissioner said this in Chipata District today.
This was when RTSA Chief Executive Officer Zindaba Soko paid a courtesy call on him.
Mr. Zulu disclosed that Chipata District has experienced an increase in the number of traffic hence the need RTSA to help people understand and appreciate the importance of road safety.
He noted that most of the road traffic accidents that have been occurred would have been avoided if people are enlightened on road safety matters.
He said it is for this reason that RTSA and the Police should work extra hard to ensure that motorists, cyclists and pedestrians are all educated on road traffic rules.
He explained that issues of overloading by pirate taxis have been rampant and yet no permanent solution has been found to address the problem.
And RTSA CEO Zindaba Soko said the agency is aware of the many challenges that district faces concerning road safety.
Mr. Soko said this is why plans are underway by the agency to establish a fast track court for road traffic offenders as a way of bringing sanity on the road.
He explained that the idea of a fast track court has proved to be effective in places where it is been implemented.
He further called for concerted efforts from all stakeholders in bringing sanity on the roads.
