LUSAKA mayor Daniel Chisenga is disappointed over the underutilisation of the K300,000 Constituency Development Fund (CDF) allocated to councilors for the implementation of development projects in their respective wards.
Mr Chisenga said this during a council meeting on Monday and advised councillors to take development to their areas, stating that this is the reason they were voted into office.
“It is disappointing to note that the K300,000 meant for development in some wards was under- utilised by our councillors.
When the electorate were eager to see development, the money was instead sent back to the bank,“Mr Chisenga said.
He said all councilors who will not utilise the funds should channel them to the other wards that are in need.
“I wish to implore members of Parliament (MPs) present to help the councillors with knowledge of how to spend these funds,” Mr Chisenga said.
The council meeting also tabled the proposed Zesco installation of pre-paid meters on street and traffic lights.
And Kabwata MP Given Lubinda suggested that the proposal be redirected to the council committee for further amendments as it needed further debate.
He said the suggestions made by fellow councillors to use solar energy for the street lights was good but it would be costly for the council as it had challenges with sourcing funds.
