Kapeya happy with peace at Nakonde
Nakonde, February 10, 2014, ZANIS…Minister of Information and
Broadcasting Services Mwansa Kapeya says he is happy with the
prevailing peace at the Zambia / Tanzania border of Nakonde in
Muchinga Province.
Speaking in Nakonde when he paid a courtesy call on Nakonde District
Commissioner James Singoyi over the weekend, Mr. Kapeya who is also
Chief Government Spokesperson and PF Member of Parliament for Mpika
Central Constituency says development cannot take place in the absence
of peace.
Mr. Kapeya says he is happy to hear that the Zambia / Tanzania border
is very peaceful and that trade between the two countries has been
going on normally with bilateral meetings for the two districts,
Nakonde and Vwawa being held constantly in order to enhance the
cooperation between the two countries.
The Information Minister is also happy that Nakonde border is
developing very fast saying the area has greatly changed in the last
few years with the establishment of more structure that has changed
the face of the border town.
He was however quick to point out that the district administration
should ensure that it is in charge of the development taking place in
the border town.
Mr. Kapeya said that there is need to control the development of
various structures taking place in Nakonde so as to maintain the
beauty of the town.
Earlier, Nakonde District Commissioner James Singoyi told the Minister
that Rural Electrification Authority ( REA) has embarked on an
electrification programme of the area along Malawi Road stretching
over a distance of 22 kilo metres.
Mr. Singoyi said schools and markets have been targeted under the
electrification programme which he said would bring development to the area.
Mr. Singoyi also disclosed that the 2011/ 2012 Constituency
Development Fund (CDF) for Nakonde Constituency has not been utilized.
