UNIP candidate 100% confident of scooping Katuba seat

United National Independent Party (UNIP) candidate for the forthcoming Katuba by – elections Friday Malawo says he is 100 percent confident of winning the seat left vacant by the untimely death of incumbent Patrick Chikusu of the MMD.
Mr Malawo said things are looking up and that he is gaining ground, adding that come February 28, he will emerge victorious.

ZANIS reports that the UNIP candidate said this in a telephone interview in Lusaka , today.

He said that this is because he has managed to gain the trust and confidence of most of the electorates in the area especially the youths.

Mr Malawo bragged that none of the other contestants that were vying for the same seat were a match for him, saying his popularity among the people was overwhelming.

The UNIP candidate has however implored the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to be on the ground to ensure no cases of corruption are curbed prior to and during the elections.

He pointed out that so far there are instances where his political opponents were allegedly bringing down his posters.

He said in one instance his supporters managed to apprehend some assumed United Party for National Development (UPND) cadres who were allegedly found pulling down his posters.

Mr Malawo said so far the campaigns in the area have been incident free and hoped the situation continues until Election Day.

He urged the electorates in the area to turn out in their large numbers on voting day for them to choose a candidate who will represent them effectively.

Mr Malawo said one of his priority areas that will focus on once voted into office will be the provision of quality primary health care, education and the electrification of Katuba which he said has remained without electricity.

He said he is young, energetic and has the drive to foster development in the area.

Residents of Katuba constituency will go to the polls to elect a new area member of parliament on February 28.

The Katuba constituency parliamentary seat is being contested by five political parties namely the ruling PF, UPND , MMD , AFZ , NAREP and UNIP.

NAREP has Joseph Mushalika and UPND has Jonas Shakafunswa while the ruling PF will Moses Chilando, a business man of Katuba Constituency..

Other their aspiring candidates are ruling PF ‘s , MMD Cecil Holmes, National Revolution Party ‘s Shakespeare Mwakamui and Alliance for a Better Zambia’s Patricia Mwashingwele .
