–Two schools in Luanshya District on the Copperbelt Province have had their roofs blown off by heavy downpour experienced last week.
Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) Copper Belt Region has disclosed the development in a telephone interview with ZANIS in Lusaka today.
Copperbelt DMMU Regional Coordinator, Edwin Muyunda, named Chenda Mayunga and Baruba Community Schools as the two institutions that had their roofs blown off as of last week.
Mr Muyunda said since the time the roofs were blown off, DMMU has given Chenda Mayunga Community School a tent and other school materials that include black boards to use before the school is rehabilitated.
The Regional Coordinator further stated that Chenda Mayunga Community School has since resumed classes under the tent provided by the unit.
Meanwhile, Mr Muyunda has disclosed that rehabilitation of Baruba Community School is being looked into by the DMMU regional office.
He also explained that the Copperbelt region is still waiting for the District Buildings Officer to submit a bill of quantities to facilitate scout for funds to enable put up roofs on the effected infrastructure.
