Govt. happy with construction works at National Heroes Stadium
Lusaka, February 5, 2014, ZANIS— Government says it is happy with the pace at which the National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka has been constructed.
Transport, Works, Supply and Communications Minister Yamfwa Mukanga says his ministry is particularly happy with the construction works at the new multi million kwacha stadia.
ZANIS sports reports that the minister said this on a conducted tour of the new stadium adjacent to the old Independence stadium.
The National Heroes Stadium currently in its completion stage and the minister toured the new structure to ascertain the amount of works that have remained to be done.
Mukanga however called on the contractor to expedite the construction works of the access roads so that the stadium can be handed over to government and be accessible by all Zambians in due time.
He said the stadium will only be opened to the public once all major complementary works are completed in order for the people to have a full feel of the entire facility.
Mr. Mukanga was accompanied by his deputy Mwimba Malama, Commerce deputy Minister Miles Sampa, senior government officials and Patriotic Front (PF) deputy secretary general Bridget Atanga.
And Clerk of Works, Francis Mundanya disclosed that all major works have been completed adding that the contractor is only monitoring those places that were snugged during the construction period.
The 50009 seater ultra modern stadium is being constructed by Shanghai Construction Group of China at cost of $94 million and is expected to be handed over to the government soon.
