Commonwealth has announced the closure of all its youth programmes in Zambia resulting in workers being rendered redundant.

According to information obtained by Qfm News, the closure of the programmes is effective 31st March, 2014.

And a circular from the Commonwealth headquarters’ human resource division indicates that the management committee has already reviewed the compulsory redundancy provisions of Commonwealth staff laid out in the local staff hand book.

And a check at the Commonwealth Youth Centre situated at the University of Zambia this morning found some of the workers already receiving their letters of termination of contracts effective 31st March 2014.

One of the affected employees who sought anonymity described the move to close the program as very unfortunate as many people will be without jobs.

He also complained that the money being given to them is little considering that they have worked for many years.
